Lydia and her offspring (pups from at least two different litters) were found on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country. We can only speculate, but we believe that the property owners sold their livestock, moved away, and left the dogs to fend for themselves.  Lydia is VERY friendly, but her pups are completely unsocialized, so we're guessing they may have been born after the people moved.

Lydia has NO interest in coming inside the house. She also HATES wearing a collar or being asked to walk on a leash. At Windsong Ranch, she has been completely safe with our goats, sheep, donkeys, and longhorns. We haven't tested her with chickens because we prefer to be able to have a dog on a leash when we take them into the chicken pen.

Lydia has not yet shown the kind of behaviors that we typically see from a livestock guardian dog, so while she is SAFE with our goats, we're not sure whether she could be counted on to protect them. She is friendly with other dogs, but doesn't really engage with them very much. We think Lydia would be happiest living on a small homestead where she has a good barn or maybe a covered porch for shelter, room to stretch her LONG legs, and lots of love from her human family. If her presence serves as a deterrent to potential predators, consider it a bonus, but we won't allow Lydia to be adopted as your primary LGD.
